Registered Nurse (RN) – Pediatric Private Duty | Fridays | Chicago, IL

Overview

KAT Health LLC is seeking a compassionate and dependable Registered Nurse (RN) to provide one-on-one private duty nursing care for a 10-month-old pediatric client in the Chicago area. This position is ideal for nurses seeking a rewarding weekend role with flexible hours. Schedule

  • Fridays: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM (12-hour shifts) through the end of the month.
  • Beginning next month, the schedule will transition to:
  • Fridays: 7:00 PM – 5:00 AM (10-hour night shifts).
  • Additional Immediate Need: Coverage for Thursday, July 16.
Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and detailed health evaluations specific to pediatric patients.
  • Administer medications and treatments such as IV infusions, injections, tube feedings, and wound care using aseptic techniques.
  • Manage airway devices and ventilators while monitoring respiratory status to ensure optimal oxygenation and comfort.
  • Document all patient interactions accurately within electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems), adhering to HIPAA regulations and medical documentation standards.
  • Collaborate closely with families and caregivers to educate them on medication administration, disease management, and safety protocols tailored for children.
  • Respond promptly to urgent situations such as acute pain episodes or respiratory distress, utilizing critical care procedures when necessary.
Skills
  • Extensive pediatric nursing experience with familiarity in home care settings and working with children with developmental disabilities or special healthcare needs.
  • Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems like Epic or Cerner for accurate documentation and patient record management.
  • Strong clinical skills including IV insertion, catheter care, suturing, phlebotomy, and specimen collection/processing.
  • Knowledge of pediatric-specific conditions such as neonatal resuscitation procedures, trauma medicine, infectious disease care, and neonatal ventilator management.
  • Ability to perform thorough patient assessments using physiology knowledge and vital signs monitoring; experienced in managing airway and ventilator equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills for educating families on complex medical procedures and providing emotional support during stressful situations.
  • Certification in basic life support (BLS) and pediatric advanced life support (PALS) preferred; familiarity with HIPAA compliance essential.
